题目：Political Connectedness and Court Outcomes: Evidence from Chinese Corporate Lawsuits

摘要：Many authoritarian regimes lack the independence of judiciary. This article studies the effect of litigant’s political connectedness on the court outcomes by studying a unique hand-collected dataset of 3323 disclosed commercial lawsuits of listed companies in China. We find robust evidence that Chinese courts favor state owned firms and private firms with personal political ties. This effect is pronounced in litigations but not arbitrations. Local-connected firms are favored in their home courts but not favored when the case is tried outside their home province. We also find the court advantage of connected firms is larger in provinces with weaker legal institutions, but decreases as the case merit becomes complex. Our results cast light on the dispute settlement role of courts in emerging and transitional economies.

演讲人简介：陆海天博士是香港理工大学会计及金融学院副院长和副教授（终身）。他同时是香港理工大学工商管理学院中国商贸管理理学硕士的课程总监。陆博士在南京大学获得了法学学士学位，在英国利物浦大学获得了法学硕士学位，以及在新加坡国立大学获得了法学博士学位。陆博士的教学和研究兴趣主要集中在风险投资，法金融学，公司治理等方面，陆博士同时在法律、金融、经济学和管理学等学科的英文期刊发表了许多专著和论文。陆博士致力于服务学术和香港专业机构的发展，他担任了中国风险投资杂志的副主编，国际风险投资杂志：venture capital: A Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance的编委会成员，香港中文大学东华学院，和香港明爱徐诚斌学院的外部评审人，香港特许秘书公会（HKICS）中国国际资格考试工作组的外部专家成员，香港特许会计师公会（HKICPA）的外部考试组成员，2012及2013年香港最佳公司治理大奖评委，香港理工大学会计与金融学院的博士评审委员会成员，亚洲竞争力论坛（ACF）学术委员会成员和南京大学香港校友会副秘书长等职务。
